Douglas G. Hamilton - Houston, Texas

ARTIST'S STATEMENT: "My work should be called EXTRACTION
rather than abstraction. I extract little bits of what I see or experience
and then look for their elemental relationships. Visual expression is
pared down to a form or geometry that simplifies and purifies those
relationships. Colors and textures flesh out the nature of those elements
and their tensions. This whole process is similar to channeling poetic
expression into the sonnet form. New collographic works on paper
have intimacy and sculptural qualities that enhance the geometric
abstraction that seems to drive me."

BIOGRAPHY: Doug Hamilton is a native of Illinois but a Texan since
1971. Early studies and extensive experience in photography
significantly influence his current vision. After moving to
Houston to continue his business and legal career, a desire
to learn new artistic "languages" led to studies at Glassell
and work in various media. His first show in Galveston in
2000 was the beginning of his current full-time pursuit of
art. His works are included in private and corporate
collections throughout the U.S.
